Culture Isn’t a Bullet-Point List

I’ve been part of this problem myself in the past. Most companies attempt to define culture through mission statements or leadership meetings.

I’ve been part of this problem myself in the past. Most companies attempt to define culture through mission statements or leadership meetings.

But culture is not created in a presentation—it emerges from everyday actions. It comes from:

  • People. The shared values and behaviors of the individuals inside the company. Leaders and founders shape future behavior and future hiring. What is rewarded and what is discouraged sets the tone for the entire organization.
  • Vision. What the company is trying to build, solve, and achieve.
  • Crisis. How the company reacts to shocks, setbacks, and uncertainty.

A strong culture

is not

a trend,

nor a list,

nor a document.

A strong culture

is

**a living, **

changing entity

that responds to the three forces above.

What define us at Writer is our

People (Connect),

Vision (Challenge)

and the Crisis (Own) this company proved it can endure.

We should protect these dearly. And we should hold ourselves accountable to these in every action we make.

That what makes us, us — that what makes us WRITER.
